Maldives has recorded over 131,000 tourist arrivals in January.
The statistics from the Ministry of Tourism shows 131,764 tourists visited the Maldives in January, which is a 43% increase compared to the 92,103 arrivals recorded in the same period last year. The statistics show 7,791 tourist arrivals were recorded in the first two days of February, which is a 56% increase compared to the arrivals recorded in the same period last year. It also shows a daily average of 3,896 tourists visit the Maldives and stay for an average of nine days.
The highest number of tourists visited from Russia this year with 24,464 arrivals, with the second highest being the UK with 14,276 arrivals. Russia had the second-highest number of tourist arrivals to the Maldives at the end of 2021, only exceeded by India. However, India is currently the third-largest source market with 11,438 arrivals to the Maldives recorded so far this year.
The government and stakeholders of the tourism industry aim to register 1.6 million tourist arrivals this year.
