Fenaka Corporation Limited has prepared to commence operation at the newly developed powerhouse in Utheemu, Haa Alifu Atoll.
The new powerhouse was developed in Utheemu as part of the efforts of the government to relocate powerhouses in inhabited islands to isolated areas. The state utility company commenced a project in 2019 to isolate the powerhouse in Utheemu, so that residents will not face harm from the smoke or the loud noise coming from the powerhouse.
The project to relocate the powerhouse in Utheemu to an isolated area commenced in February 2019. The new powerhouse in Utheemu would improve the electricity situation of the island and further develop the island with great social and economic benefits.
The government has also sent two new 400 kW generator sets and other required equipment to the powerhouse to improve the electricity situation in Utheemu.
