43 MNDF officers complete 13th Bodyguard Training Course

Ministry of Defence has announced 43 officers of the Maldives National Defence Force (MNDF) have completed the 13th Bodyguard Training Course.

A total of 45 officers participated in the course conducted at the MNDF Southern Area Command. The participants included members of the Presidential Guard, Special Protection Group (SPG), Military Police, the College of Defence and Security Studies (CDSS), and the Fire and Rescue Services.

During the three-month course, participants were trained on the use of firearms as bodyguards, contact techniques, and emergency medical treatment. Upon conclusion of the course, Private Hassan Azwar received the Honour Graduate Award and Best Shooter Award, while Private Mohamed Muneef received the award for Best Fitness.

Minister of Defence Mariya Ahmed Didi was the Guest of Honour at the Closing Ceremony of the 13th Bodyguard Training Course. At the ceremony, Defence Minister Mariya said personal security officers should work with the utmost professionalism, commitment to the challenging duty of protection they are entrusted with, and without limiting their vision to a five-year term. She also noted the bravery and professionalism shown by the officers who had protected Speaker of Parliament Mohamed Nasheed during the terrorist attack on May 6, 2021.

Chief of Defence Force Major General Abdulla Shamaal and officers at the Southern Area Command also joined the closing ceremony.
