Indoor sports complexes to be developed in six regions in the atolls

Ministry of Youth, Sports and Community Empowerment has announced the decision to establish indoor sports complexes in six regions across the atolls.

The youth ministry stated indoor sports complexes are being developed in the atolls to facilitate opportunities for individuals residing in the atolls and to build a generation of talented sportsmen and women across the country. As such, the ministry revealed multipurpose indoor sports complexes will be developed in Alifushi and Dhuvaafaru in Raa Atoll, Ukulhas in Alifu Alifu Atoll and Fuvahmulah City as well as Feydhoo and Meedhoo in Addu City.

The youth ministry announced the first project will be conducted in Addu City Meedhoo, noting the project has been submitted to the National Tender Board. The ministry added the complex in Meedhoo will be able to host international tournaments in handball, netball, volleyball and basketball.

The youth ministry is undertaking several projects across the atolls to establish sports facilities and to provide opportunities for locals to develop their sports skills. As such, the ministry has conducted projects in 25 islands to develop turf pitches for football.
