Local Government Authority (LGA) has revealed members of Women’s Development Committees (WDCs) will receive improved salaries starting from this month.
In August last year, President Ibrahim Mohamed Solih announced the decision to increase the salaries of WDC members. LGA revealed local councils have been instructed to revise their budgets in accordance to the revised salary structure, effective from January. Therefore, LGA said WDC members will receive improved salaries starting from this month.
As per the revised WDC salary structure, presidents of WDCs in the cities will now receive USD 453, and the vice presidents will receive USD 421. Other members of WDCs in the cities will receive USD 389.
Meanwhile, presidents of WDCs in the islands will receive USD 389, and vice presidents will receive USD 356. Other members of WDCs in islands will receive USD 324.
The Decentralisation Act dictates that WDCs are responsible for advising the city and island councils on local development and services, upholding human rights, and increasing religious awareness. WDCs are also tasked with increasing the involvement of women in social and economic issues, increasing women in higher education, as well as increasing the health and wellbeing of women and children.
