Fehendhoo School reopened after 13 years

Fehendhoo School in Baa Atoll has resumed classes after 13 years.

Fehendhoo School was closed in 2008 due to its small student population. Since then, school children of Fehendhoo had been attending school in the neighbouring island of Goidhoo.

However, Fehendhoo School has now been reopened following its establishment as a satellite school. Satellite schools have been established in islands with very little populations that do not have enough students to run a school. As such, satellite schools have been developed in Rakeedhoo and Thinadhoo in Vaavu Atoll, in addition to Fehendhoo.

The education ministry had earlier stated the development of satellite schools will remove the need for students of these three islands to travel by sea to other islands every day. The ministry revealed students of the satellite school will be taught by teachers at the satellite hub established at Huravee School in Male’.

The education ministry further stated all islands with satellite schools would have a building where students can attend classes, with teachers to be allocated for each grade. The ministry stated extra-curricular activities will be carried out in coordination with other schools.
