Maldives Qualifications Authority (MQA) has launched its newly developed standard for academic programmes in Quranic Sciences. Minister of Higher Education Dr. Ibrahim Hassan participated in the ceremony to launch the MQA standard, with Minister of Islamic Affairs Dr. Ahmed Zahir Ali as the chief guest.
The purpose of launching the MQA standard is to alleviate the concerns of experts and students regarding current standards in the Maldives for academic programmes in Quran. The MQA standard aims to evaluate academic programmes conducted by higher education centres by the same standard and to improve the standards of teachers.
Speaking at the ceremony, Higher Education Minister Hassan said the government vows to continue to promote the spirit of Islam in the Maldives. Also at the ceremony, Islamic Minister Zahir said the new MQA standard is expected to greatly alleviate the challenges faced by higher education centres and students.
He said new courses and programmes in Quranic Sciences will be required to fit the new standard before being approved. However, he said current batches will not be required to follow the new standard.
