Gov't seeks interested parties to design two tertiary hospitals

Ministry of Finance has announced seeking interested parties to design tertiary hospitals in Kulhudhuffushi, Haa Dhaalu Atoll, and Thinadhoo, Gaafu Dhaalu Atoll.

The finance ministry opened the projects to design and build tertiary hospitals in Kulhudhuffushi and Thinadhoo for bidding in 2020, on behalf of the Ministry of Health. The ministry stated the bids were cancelled after applicants submitted bids with costs exceeding the set amounts in the state budget.

The ministry has now re-opened bidding for the projects, with interested parties required to submit bids for designing and building the hospitals separately. Interested parties are currently only allowed to submit bids for the design of the tertiary hospitals.

Additionally, the ministry is seeking interested parties to design hospitals in Fuvahmulah City and Mahibadhoo, Alifu Dhaalu Atoll. The ministry is also seeking parties for the project to expand the health centres in Foakaidhoo and Maroshi in Shaviyani Atoll.

Building tertiary hospitals in five regions of the Maldives is part of the government's pledge to decentralise health care services in the country and improve healthcare in the atolls. The tertiary hospitals are to be built in Thinadhoo, Kulhudhuffushi, Ungoofaaru in Raa Atoll, and Gan, Laamu Atoll, and Hithadhoo in Addu City.
