MTCC Completes Mulah Shore Protection Project

Maldives Transport and Contracting Company (MTCC) has announced it has completed the shore protection project in Mulah, Meemu Atoll.

Ministry of National Planning, Housing and Infrastructure contracted MTCC to design and build the shore protection structure in March last year. The agreement was signed by the Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of MTCC Adam Azim and Permanent Secretary at the Planning Ministry Zeeniya Ahmed Hameed. The state-owned company was tasked with constructing a 412m geo bag revetment within 105 days at a cost of USD 1.2 million.

President of Mulah Island Council Ahmed Jamaal stated a large part of the island has been lost to the longstanding and neglected problem of erosion and that the shore protection structure has been a major step forward to solve environmental issues. He said residents living on the eastern edge of the island have been affected by the high tide but that the shore protection structure has greatly eased their worries. MTCC stated it always conducts work that has a longstanding positive impact on the community, in a manner that is approved by citizens.

MTCC is the largest public contractor in the Maldives and is undertaking a large number of infrastructure development projects throughout the country. The state-owned company has been conducting various land reclamation, harbour development, airport development, and shore protection projects across the Maldives.
