HPA orders sports events to be held without spectators

Health Protection Agency (HPA) has ordered sports events in the Greater Male' Region to be held without spectators.

HPA announced the implementation of new strict health measures in a press release signed by the Director-General of Public Health Maimoona Abubakur. It stated that sports events should no longer be open to spectators and other events should no longer allow a gathering of more than 50 people.

Currently, the President's Cup is the largest sports tournament being held in the Greater Male' Region. The President's Cup began on December 19 without spectators.

HPA previously enforced similar measures to allow sports events to be held without spectators and had also banned some sports tournaments from being held, in order to control the spread of COVID-19.

The latest statistics from HPA shows an increase in COVID-19 cases in the country, with over 200 daily cases recorded in the past week.
