Foreign Minister of China arrives in the Maldives on an official visit

The State Councilor and Minister of Foreign Affairs of China, Wang Yi has arrived in the Maldives on an official visit.

State Councilor Wang Yi is visiting the Maldives at the invitation of Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Maldives Abdulla Shahid. He was received at the Velana International Airport by Foreign Minister Shahid and senior officials of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs.

The visit is a part of both countries’ efforts to strengthen the long-standing bilateral ties and to commemorate the 50th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations between the Maldives and China. During his visit, State Councilor Wang Yi will pay a courtesy call on President Ibrahim Mohamed Solih, and will hold official talks with Foreign Minister Shahid. State Councilor Wang Yi and Foreign Minister Shahid will also witness the signing of a number of key agreements on important areas such as infrastructure development, health, and travel.

China is one of the most important development partners of the Maldives and has continued to contribute to the socio-economic development of the country in several important areas.
