The college will include an accommodation block, laboratory facilities, and a multipurpose workshop, in addition to classrooms, study rooms, an auditorium, a library, and a student services section. The college will also be equipped with an activity centre and a gymnasium.
As per the announcement by the finance ministry, companies interested in undertaking the project on a design-and-build basis are required to register for the bid before January 27. Bid submission will be carried out on January 30 at the National Tender Hall of the finance ministry. As such, a bid security of USD 8,000 has been allocated for this project.
The junior college project is conducted under the new educational model introduced by the Ministry of Higher Education. In this regard, colleges developed under the new model will focus on foundation courses for students aged between 16 and 21, who have completed their ordinary level examinations. The courses conducted by junior colleges would have a duration of two years.
The higher education ministry revealed the junior college in Dhidhdhoo would specialise in food processing and fisheries courses. However, the ministry said the college will conduct vocational courses in various other sectors as well.
