Maldives Airports Company Limited (MACL) has stated the attractive incentive packages offered to partner airlines contributed significantly to the boost in tourist arrivals to the Maldives during 2021.
Speaking at the ceremony held to welcome the first visitor of 2022, Acting In-Charge of Maldives Airports Company Limited (MACL) Ibrahim Thoha highlighted the significant progress achieved in boosting tourist arrivals during 2021, with the Maldives exceeding its target of 1.3 million visitors during the year. Thoha said the MACL, as a significant contributor to the aviation and tourism industry, played a crucial role in the growth of tourism by providing attractive incentive packages to partner airlines. He added the high safety standards at Velana International Airport (VIA) helped the airport secure the ACI Health Accreditation Certificate as the second airport from the Asia Pacific.
Speaking further, Thoha said all these efforts have been rewarded by the rising number of passengers flying each month, approaching pre-COVID-19 levels. He emphasised that the future of the Maldives looks bright and expressed gratitude to all stakeholders who have helped make the Maldives such a wonderful place to visit.
