Ministry of Youth, Sports, and Community Empowerment has begun a youth camp in Addu City in collaboration with the Addu City Council and Maldives Police Service (MPS).
The youth camp is being held for 14 days in Addu High School with 91 participants. MPS has stated the participants include youths from the Greater Male' Region, Gaafu Alifu Atoll, Gaafu Dhaalu Atoll, and Fuvahmulah City. The purpose of the camp is to instill a sense of work ethic, responsibility, capability, and love of country and religion in youths.
Speaking at the inaugural ceremony, State Minister for Youth, Sports, and Community Empowerment Hussain Ismail said empowering the youth is a high priority in the government's strategic action plan. He said participants will acquire knowledge during the camp and will also receive the opportunity to develop skills in the national apprenticeship programme after the camp, which will allow them to receive more job opportunities.
Also at the ceremony, Addu City Mayor Ali Nizar expressed hope that the participants will become capable and contributing members of their community upon conclusion of the camp. He also said the youth camp shows the government greatly values empowering the youth in the country.
Participants will receive certificates for completing the camp as well as for completing training programmes during the camp including fire safety, basic house wiring, and first aid.
