India Out campaign likely to cause harm in the long term: JP

Jumhooree Party (JP) has stated the India Out campaign led by the opposition is likely to cause serious harm to the country in the long term.

In a statement released regarding the India Out campaign, the government coalition partner JP said it will never support any action that threatens the independence and sovereignty of the nation. However, JP said there are no legal grounds to declare that there is a destructive foreign military presence in the country, as there have been no action through the parliament to grant any part of the country to a foreign military for any purpose.

JP further noted it is beneficial to conduct collaborated military activities in the form of training and educational programmes as part of a bilateral relationship. JP said describing such activities as foreign military presence that undermines the sovereignty of the country only serves the purpose of manipulating the public to fulfill a certain political agenda. JP strongly condemned the India Out campaign, stating it is likely to cause serious harm in the long term by damaging the bilateral ties with one of the country’s closest neighbours.

The opposition-led India Out campaign has been strongly condemned by the government as well Adhaalath Party (AP) and Maldives National Party (MNP). All parties have described the campaign as politically motivated.
