Maldives close to target of 1.3 million tourist arrivals

Minister of Tourism Dr. Abdulla Mausoom has revealed the Maldives is close to its target of 1.3 million tourist arrivals this year.

In a tweet, Tourism Minister Mausoom noted the initial target of one million tourist arrivals in 2021 was reached on October 29, which was two months in advance. He said the Maldives is close to its optimistic target of 1.3 million tourist arrivals, and will likely cross that milestone on December 28.

The latest statistics from the tourism ministry show 1.27 million tourists have visited the Maldives as of December 23. The Maldives also recorded 113,368 tourist arrivals so far in December with an average of 5,153 arrivals per day.

As per the statistics, 92,103 tourist arrivals were recorded in January, 96,882 in February, and 109,585 in March this year. Additionally, a total of 91,200 tourists visited the Maldives in April, 64,613 tourists in May, 56,166 in June, 101,818 in July, and 143,599 in August. The statistics also show 114,896 arrivals in September, 142,066 tourist arrivals in October, and 144,725 arrivals in November.

The largest number of tourist arrivals were recorded from India with 286,434 arrivals. Russia is second with 214,232 tourist visits and Germany is third with 90,732 tourist visits so far this year.
