PGA Shahid tests positive for COVID-19

President of the United Nations General Assembly (PGA) and the Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Maldives Abdulla Shahid has tested positive for COVID-19.

Shahid, who is currently in the US to fulfill his responsibilities as the PGA, tested positive for COVID-19 on December 23. Shahid revealed he is now isolating at home with mild symptoms. He further noted he is fully vaccinated, inclusive of a booster dose.

One of the main pledges by Shahid upon being elected as the PGA is to work towards global vaccine equity. Since assuming office as the PGA, Shahid has been working actively in the UN to ensure a fair distribution of COVID-19 vaccines to countries.
