Thai AirAsia has resumed its flight operations to the Maldives. The airline commenced flight operations to the Maldives after a two-year gap.
Maldives Airports Company Limited (MACL) expressed it was pleasing to see the increasing number of airlines arriving in the Maldives from Southeast Asia. A virtual event was also held in December following the decision to resume flights between Maldives and Thailand.
During the event, Maldives Marketing and Public Relations Corporation (MMPRC) briefed the participants on the travel measures taken in response to the COVID-19 pandemic.
Moreover, information on flight connectivity and ticket promotions were also shared within the virtual event. A large number of tourists are expected to visit the Maldives once again following the easing of travel restrictions in Thailand. The number of tourists from South Asia visiting the Maldives has increased over the past few years.
With the commencement of more flights from the region to the Maldives, the number of tourist arrivals is expected to increase. The Maldives welcomed over 87,636 tourists from South-East Asia in 2019.
