MDP announces candidate contesting for Komandoo seat in the parliament

Maldivian Democratic Party (MDP) has announced Mohamed Rashid will be the party’s candidate for the parliamentary by-election of Komandoo constituency, to be held in February 2022.

MDP had opened candidacy for party’s primary ahead of the by-election of Komandoo constituency, which is being held due to the passing of the late Parliamentarian Hussain Waheed. The late parliamentarian had been representing the constituency in the parliament on MDP’s ticket.

MDP revealed only one candidate, Mohamed Rashid, had applied to contest in the party’s primary for the by-election. As a result, MDP announced Rashid has secured the party’s ticket for the by-election.

In addition to MDP, the opposition Progressive Party of Maldives (PPM) and Maldives National Party (MNP) have also expressed interest to contest for the Komandoo seat in the parliament. Elections Commission of the Maldives (ECM) has opened candidacy for the by-election until December 30, 2021.
