HDC raises concerns on questionable award of contract to develop water theme park

Housing Development Corporation (HDC) has raised concerns on the questionable award of a contract to a Malaysian company by the previous administration to develop a water theme park in Hulhumale’.

Speaking to PSM News, Managing Director of HDC Suhail Ahmed said issues with the award of the contract to Miri Housing Development Sdn Bhd of Malaysia to develop a water theme park in Hulhumale’ in 2017 was detected during an internal audit of HDC. As such, Suhail said HDC found that the contract was awarded in such a way that it provided illegitimate benefits to the Malaysian company. Suhail said the case has been submitted to Anti-Corruption Commission (ACC) for further investigation.

The project to develop a water theme park in Hulhumale’ was awarded to Miri Housing Development in 2017 at a price of approximately USD 35 million. However, the project has not gone according to plan and has been stalled without much progress.
