MTCC to complete reclamation, shore protection project in Feeali

Ministry of National Planning, Housing, and Infrastructure has contracted Maldives Transport and Contracting Company (MTCC) to complete the land reclamation and shore protection project in Feeali, Faafu Atoll.

The agreement was signed by the CEO of MTCC Adam Azim and Director General at the Ministry of National Planning, Housing, and Infrastructure Fathimath Shana Farooq.

Representative of Bilehdhoo Constituency Ahmed Haleem and Board Member of MTCC Mohamed Fareed was also in attendance at the agreement-signing ceremony.

The scope of the project involves reclamation operations of 13.8 hectares, construction of a 1,600m revetment, and a 150m groyne. MTCC is tasked with completing the project within 450 days at a cost of USD 4.3 million. Feeali has a population of 1,263 residents and is one of many islands suffering from a lack of housing.

Currently, the island's land area of 13.8 hectares is not enough to build housing units to sustain the increase in residents.
