Ministry of Tourism has revealed a record number of tourists have visited the Maldives in December.
The statistics from the tourism ministry show 6,296 tourists visited the Maldives on December 5, which is the highest number of tourist arrivals recorded in one day so far this year.
The number of tourist arrivals has been increasing due to the government's work to market the Maldives as a leading destination after the re-opening of borders. As such, a total of 144,725 tourist arrivals were recorded in November, which is a 4.9% increase compared to the same month in 2019. As per the statistics, 92,103 tourist arrivals were recorded in January, 96,882 in February, and 109,585 in March this year. Additionally, a total of 91,200 tourists visited the Maldives in April, 64,613 tourists visited in May, 56,166 in June, 101,818 in July, 143,599 in August, 114,896 in September, and 142,066 in October this year.
The statistics also show an average of 4,824 tourists are visiting the Maldives each day, with 26,519 tourist arrivals recorded so far this month. The largest number of tourist arrivals were recorded from India 261,164 arrivals, which makes up 23% of the total arrivals. Russia is in second with 205,246 tourist visits and Germany is third with 83,817 tourist visits so far this year.
A total of 1.16 million tourists have visited the Maldives this year, with most tourists staying in the country for an average of 8.8 days.
