Sri Lankan Airlines resumes direct flights to Addu

Sri Lankan Airlines has resumed direct flights to Gan, Addu City. The passengers that arrived at Addu International Airport by a Sri Lankan flight were welcomed by the Addu City Council, and senior officials of the airline.

The flag carrier of Sri Lanka announced it would resume scheduled flights to Addu City last month. Previously, one of the major complaints received by customers when Sri Lankan originally commenced operations to Addu was that the airline did not have a domestic connection with international flights.

Managing Director of Maldivian, the national flag carrier of the Maldives, Mohamed Mihad has said that connection flights will be provided to Gaafu Alifu Atoll and Gaafu Dhaalu Atoll and Male' City when operations resume.

Sri Lankan Airlines had previously operated scheduled flights between Gan and Colombo Sri Lanka, allowing residents of Addu to directly travel abroad without travelling to Male'. However, the flights were suspended following the COVID-19 pandemic.

Sri Lankan Airlines first commenced flights to Addu on December 1, 2016.
