President Ibrahim Mohamed Solih has revealed the government has spent USD 1.2 million on the therapeutic treatment programme this year. He made the remarks speaking at the ceremony held to present the Riveli Awards 2021.
Speaking at the ceremony, President Solih noted the administration launched a programme in 2019 to include therapeutic treatment under the Aasandha National Health Insurance Scheme. The president highlighted the government's initiatives focused on easing services to children and people with disabilities. He said the state spent USD 200,000 in 2019, USD 466,000 in 2020, and USD 1.2 million by the end of October 2021 under the scheme.
Additionally, President Solih further emphasised the efforts by the government to ease the availability of mobility aids and assistive technologies for the disabled. The president noted the government continued to provide monthly disability allowances even throughout the Covid-19 pandemic. He further shed light on the importance of providing care, love, and compassion to people with disabilities.
At the ceremony, President Solih presented the awards to recipients of the Riveli Awards and launched a special logo for use on products designed for children with special needs and a logo for their mobility aids. First Lady Fazna Ahmed also attended the ceremony and presented awards to the winners of the Riveli Thari competition held to showcase the talents of children with disabilities.
