Ministry of Youth, Sports and Community Empowerment and Maldives Industrial Fisheries Company (MIFCO) have signed to develop youth in work-related areas. The agreement was signed by the CEO of MIFCO Ismail Fauzee and Minister of State for Youth Ministry Hussain Ismail.

Under the agreement, MIFCO has decided to train a total of 22 youth in the National Apprenticeship Programme initiated by the youth ministry. MIFCO stated youth trained under the programme will be actively involved in work-related areas in which they have applied as work experience.

The company also said participants will learn all the skills required in their field of work by the end of the programme. MIFCO noted while the government is currently working with high priority to developing resources of MIFCO, major infrastructure development will be seen in the coming days which will require more human resources to carry out the works of the company.

Under the programme, the company has allocated six different areas of work skills for the training, considering areas which lack staff, which are electrical installation and maintenance, welding techniques, automotive maintenance, marine mechanic, refrigeration and air conditioning mechanic and fish processing and quality control.

The certificate level three of the Maldives National Qualifications Framework will be completed in six months. Each participant trained in the programme will also receive an allowance of about USD 195.
