Over 200,000 Russian tourists visit the Maldives

Ministry of Tourism has revealed over 200,000 tourists from Russia have visited the Maldives so far this year.

Statistics from the tourism ministry show 202,277 tourists have arrived from Russia, which is 18% of the total tourist arrivals this year. The total number of tourist arrival from Russia so far this year is an increase of 177% when compared to the 73,081 tourist visits recorded in the same period in 2019.

The statistics show an increasing number of tourists have been visiting from Russia since the Maldives re-opened its borders following the COVID-19 pandemic. The increasing number of tourist arrivals from Russia is a result of marketing strategies and promotions conducted by the government and stakeholders of the Maldives tourism industry.

Currently, most tourists visit from India, with 252,551 arrivals recorded so far this year, which marks up 22% of the total arrivals. Russia is in second and Germany is in third with 81,223 tourist visits from the country so far this year.
