Tajikistan allows travel for Maldivians without prior visa

Minister of Foreign Affairs Abdulla Shahid has announced the Government of Tajikistan has allowed Maldivians to travel to the country without a prior visa.

In a tweet, Minister Shahid thanked the Minister of Foreign Affairs of Tajikistan Sirojiddin Muhriddin for the decision. He also said it will boost cultural and civilisational links between both countries.

Ministry of Foreign Affairs stated Maldivians will be allowed to travel to Tajikistan without requiring a prior visa from January 1.

The Maldives established political relations with Tajikistan in 1993 and celebrated its 28th anniversary on October 6 this year. Tajikistan is a small central Asian country with a population of around 10 million.

Maldivian travellers have also been allowed to travel to Russia, Morocco, Thailand, and the UAE without a prior visa since 2018.

Furthermore, India, Sri Lanka, and Saudi Arabia also have ease of travel restrictions in place for Maldivians while Schengen visas are available for Maldivians to travel to some European countries.
