President shows progress can be made peacefully: Home Minister

Minister of Home Affairs Imran Abdulla has stated President Ibrahim Mohamed Solih has shown that progress can be made in the country peacefully. He made the remarks while speaking at the official ceremony to mark the 54th Republic Day of the Maldives.

Speaking at the event, Minister Imran said establishing a republic in the country has made significant changes in terms of political views and progress. He said republic rule has shown citizens they can participate in the efforts to develop the country.

Furthermore, Minister Imran said President Solih has led the current government in the past three years peacefully, despite the challenges he faced following the COVID-19 pandemic. He expressed his hope that the president will continue to bring dignity and sanctity back to the republic system of government, which had been lost in 2013.

Moreover, Minister Imran said the government's efforts towards decentralisation have brought positive results in the form of citizens being able to contribute to the workings of their residential islands and atolls. He added that citizens receive the full benefits of a republic through decentralisation and that both citizens and the government should work together towards decentralisation.
