Parliamentary committee to begin work to dismiss ACC members

Parliamentary Committee on Independent Institutions has revealed its decision to begin work to dismiss members of the Anti-Corruption Commission (ACC).

Parliamentarian Hassan Ahmed proposed the motion to dismiss the ACC members, which was seconded by Parliamentarian Ahmed Haleem.

The motion requested that the committee summon and question the ACC members individually and review the progress of their work before making a decision to dismiss the members. Members of the committee voted unanimously to approve the motion. The committee reviewed the work of the ACC in a recent meeting and has expressed concern that the efforts of the commission have not met expectations.

Speaking at the committee, Parliamentarian Hussain Shaheem expressed concern over the lack of progress in recovering funds embezzled from the state. He noted that ACC has given the Parliament various deadlines to conclude the embezzlement cases but has still not shown results.

ACC consists of President Mariyam Shiuna Naaib, Vice President Fathimath Anoola, and members Ali Ashraf, Ibrahim Shakeel, and Aishath Abdulla.
