Road Development Corporation (RDC) has revealed it is currently working on finalising the design concept before commencing the Male' City road development project.
RDC assured the project is ongoing despite not announcing a date to begin the fieldwork. It stated it is currently discussing the design of the project with the Male' City Council and other relevant authorities. RDC stated its immediate priority is to finalise the draft of the Male' City Council and formulate a design concept.
Male' City Council contracted RDC to develop 15 roads in Male' City on October 11. The project signed with RDC includes an upgraded scope of work compared to the Male' Streetscaping Project contracted to the corporation by the previous city council.
Under the new project, RDC is tasked with refurbishing a total of 105 roads spanning 18 kilometres. The most significant change to the project is for RDC to tar 15 roads, which includes some of the most used roads in the city.
Mayor of Male' City Dr. Mohamed Muizzu has said the main purpose of amending the contract with RDC is to ensure the completion of the project within a shorter timeframe. As such, the mayor noted RDC is contracted to redevelop 105 roads within a duration of two years, under the new contract.
Furthermore, Male' City Council stated major changes will be brought to the northern harbour area with the expansion of roads to ease traffic congestion, allow easier parking as well as load and unloading of goods.
The council stated the roads in the northern area will also be made greener and more accessible to people with special needs.
