Sri Lankan Airlines has decided to commence flight operations to Addu City in December.
The General Sales Agent of Sri Lankan Airlines, Ace Aviation Services Maldives Private Limited revealed flight operations will commence to Addu from December 4. Although Ace Aviation announced plans to resume operation to Addu City, no further details regarding the schedule have been revealed.
Although Ace Aviation previously announced scheduled flights will resume to Addu from November 2, the operation resumption has been delayed. Ace Aviation and Addu International Airport (AIA) held discussions regarding the matter last week. Speaking to PSM News following the meetings, the Managing Director of Ace Aviation Mohamed Firaq said the delay was caused due to the border closures following the COVID-19 pandemic.
One of the major complaints received by customers when Sri Lankan commenced operations to Addu was that the airline did not have a domestic connection with international flights. Managing Director of Maldivian, the national flag carrier of the Maldives, Mohamed Mihad said that connection flights will be provided to Gaafu Alifu Atoll and Gaafu Dhaalu Atoll and Male' City when operations resume. Moreover, AIA revealed changes have been brought to the terminal to provide easier services to passengers.
Sri Lankan Airlines had previously operated scheduled flights between Gan and Colombo, allowing residents of Addu to travel abroad without going to Male'. However, the flights were suspended following the COVID-19 pandemic.
Sri Lankan Airlines first commenced flights to Addu on December 1, 2016.
