Housing Development Corporation (HDC) has contracted Maldive Gas Private Limited to install centralised gas systems in Hiya flats built in Hulhumale’ Phase II.
The contract to install the gas systems was signed on November 2 by Managing Director of HDC Suhail Ahmed and Managing Director of Maldive Gas Shazail Shiyam. HDC stated the aim of installing a centralised system is to ease the difficulties of carrying gas cylinders to the upper floors of Hiya flat towers, which are built up to 25 stories. HDC said the centralised gas systems would also remove the risks associated with carrying so many gas cylinders through the elevators.
Under the contract, Maldive Gas will establish storage units on the ground floor of every tower. Installation of the centralised gas systems is expected to be completed by the second quarter of next year. Maldive Gas is contracted to operate the systems for a period of 20 years.
Several families have moved in to the newly built Hiya flats in Hulhumale’ Phase II. The government is working on completing the basic necessities of families moving in to the flats.
