Maldives Airports Company Limited (MACL) has revealed plans to introduce electronic check-in and self baggage drop services at Velana International Airport (VIA) within the next year.
CEO and Managing Director of MACL Gordon Andrew Stewart stated the company plans to undertake several efforts to increase the capacity and quality of service provided at VIA. In this regard, the CEO noted the main challenges and difficulties faced at the airport have been identified, adding the equipment required to resolve these issues are being purchased. He also noted electronic check-in and self baggage drop services will be introduced at the airport within the next year.
VIA is the main gateway of the Maldives. With the increase in tourist arrivals once again, the airport serves a large number of people on a daily basis. During October 2021, the Maldives recorded an average of over 4,600 tourist arrivals per day.
