Maldives State Shipping (MSS) has revealed its vessels brings in goods of over 400 containers to the country over each trip.
Speaking on a programme aired on PSM News, Managing Director Abdulla Saeed said MSS is making a lot of progress despite the difficulties faced by the company. He said being able to bring in 400 containers per shipment shows how much the sector has developed over the last few years. Just about 50 containers could be brought to the Maldives per trip over a year ago, he added.
Furthermore, Managing Director Saeed noted MSS is not yet operating as a profitable company. Saeed said the major reason behind the lack of profits is the use of chartered vessels to carry containers, adding MSS could start making profits by deploying the vessel it had recently purchased.
MSS is a new shipping and logistics company launched in 2020 offering an extensive international liner shipping service. MSS, a subsidiary company of the State Trading Organisation (STO), aims to facilitate the import of goods to the Maldives at affordable prices.
