Over 100,000 tourist arrivals recorded in October

Ministry of Tourism has revealed over 100,000 tourist arrivals have been recorded so far in October.

Statistics from show 102,434 tourists visited the Maldives as of October 24. The number of tourist arrivals this month is a 599% increase compared to the same period last year. However, the number of tourist arrivals in October is 2% lower compared to the 104,567 tourist arrivals recorded in the same period in 2019.

The statistics also show 92,103 tourist arrivals were recorded in January while 96,882 arrivals were recorded in February and 109,585 arrivals were recorded in March.

Additionally, a total of 91,200 tourists visited the Maldives in April, 64,613 tourists visited in May, 56,166 visited in June, 101,818 in July, 143,599 in August, and 114,896 arrivals were recorded in September. The Maldives has recorded 973,269 tourist arrivals so far this year and is currently recording a daily average of 4,454 arrivals. The highest daily number of visits were recorded on October 16 with 6,197 tourist arrivals.

Maldives Marketing and Public Relations Corporation (MMPRC) has stated the Maldives is expected to hit the one million mark in tourist arrivals for 2021 before the end of this month.

India is currently the top source market of tourists to the Maldives, accounting for 23% of all arrivals this year. Russia is second in the market with 19% of all arrivals this year.

The statistics show tourists spend an average of eight days in the Maldives.
