Ministry of Education receives a petition with signatures from 3,000 parents to establish an Arabic medium school in Hulhumale'.
Minister of Education Dr. Aishath Ali held a meeting with the parents leading the petition to discuss the proposal. At the meeting, the parents informed Minister Aishath that many students enrolled in Arabiyya School live in Hulhumale' and that numerous parents in Hulhumale' want their children to learn Islam in the Arabic language.
Arabiyya is an Arabic medium school that teaches almost all the subjects in the Arabic language.
At the meeting, the parents also said they plan to submit the petition to the President's Office, Ministry of Islamic Affairs, and Housing Development Corporation (HDC).
After the meeting, some of the parents have cited Minister Aishath saying establishing an Arabic medium school is part of the ministry's agenda. However, the state budget only includes the development of two public English medium schools in Hulhumale'.
