Regional Airports Company Limited has contracted Beijing ZRGW Corporation Limited to install runway lights at Kulhudhuffushi Airport.
The contract for the project was signed between Regional Airports and Beijing ZRGW Corporation on October 19. Regional Airports, which operates Kulhudhuffushi Airport, revealed the project is expected to be completed before the end of this year, allowing night operations to begin at the airport in January 2022. The company said the lighting system to be installed at Kulhudhuffushi Airport is a LED lighting system, which would extend the life of the lighting system and reduce expenditure on electricity.
Kulhudhuffushi Airport began scheduled flight operations in 2018. However, due to the absence of runway lighting, the airport is currently unable to operate flights during night time. All flights to the region during night are operated via Hanimaadhoo International Airport.
