Male’ Water and Sewerage Company Limited (MWSC) has revealed problems have been detected with the water bills of 172 flats constructed under the Hiya housing project in Hulhumale’ Phase II.
Speaking to PSM News, Managing Director of MWSC Hassan Shah stated 1,200 Hiya flats have been registered to MWSC’s services, of which 172 flats have reported problems in their water bill for the first month of service. Shah said there are some problems within the water supply network in the Hiya flats that is leading to some flats receiving large bills. He added efforts are underway to identify and resolve the issues.
Speaking further, Shah noted flats that generated a water bill above USD 320 have not been charged with the bill. He noted the problem is being caused by a leak in the water supply network, adding the company is notifying the flats in which the problems have been identified.
Furthermore, the managing director denied claims that MWSC had sent a water bill above USD 38,000 to a household. Shah said the company will not charge any household for water that was not used, adding the company is continuously working with the relevant authorities to address the issues related to water supply services.
The utility services in Hiya flats were installed by a Chinese company. MWSC has urged residents of Hiya flats to check if their billing metre still runs while all valves are closed. The company also urged owners of Hiya flats who have not yet moved in to make sure all valves stay closed.
