Male’ City Council has contracted Road Development Corporation (RDC) to renovate and refurbish another 16 roads of Male’ City.
The contract for the road development project was signed on October 11 during a ceremony held at Hotel Jen in Male’. The contract was signed by Male’ City Mayor Dr. Mohamed Muizzu and Managing Director of RDC Moosa Ali Manik.
The new project signed with RDC includes an upgraded scope of work compared to the Male’ Streetscaping Project contracted to the corporation by the city council. Under the new project, RDC is tasked with refurbishing a total of 105 roads spanning 51.3 kilometeres, with the inclusion of 16 roads that were not included in the scope of the Male’ Streetscaping Project.
Speaking at the signing ceremony, Mayor Muizzu said the main purpose of amending the contract with RDC is to ensure the completion of the project within a shorter timeframe. As such, the mayor noted RDC is contracted to redevelop 105 roads within a duration of two years, under the new contract.
Speaking further, the mayor acknowledged that the public will face some difficulties when the project is in progress, given the dense population of the city. However, he expressed hope the project will resolve some of longstanding issues faced in the city in relation to the roads.
