MP Nazim elected as president of MNP

Parliamentarian Colonel (Rtd.) Mohamed Nazim has been elected as the President of Maldives National Party (MNP) without an election.

Nazim is the only person who had applied to contest for the post of president in the first-ever internal elections to elect members to the positions within the party. Therefore, he was auto-elected to the position.
The internal elections scheduled to be held on Friday will elect members to high-ranking posts of the party.

While six vice presidents are set to be selected, four of them have been auto-elected for the post without an election. The four auto-elected vice presidents include Parliamentarians Abdulla Riyaz and Ahmed Usham.

The election must be held for the Upper North region and a female vice president to represent women. Shidhatha Shareef, Mohamed Saeed, and Ahmed Anoosh are contesting for the Upper North region position.

Meanwhile, Mirufath Ismail Faiz and Aishath Hussain Manik are contesting for the position of female vice president. Moreover, Dunya Maumoon, Aishath Abdulla, and Aishath Hussain Manik are contesting for the presidency of the women's branch. Irufan Abdulla, Umar Ahmed, and Mohamed Isam Abdulla Ibrahim are contesting for the youth branch.
