Development of children’s home in Nilandhoo opened for tender

Ministry of Finance has opened tender for the development of a children’s home in Nilandhoo, Faafu Atoll.

The project to develop a children’s home in Nilandhoo is undertaken by the Ministry of Gender, Family and Social Services. The aim of the project is to provide a healthy home environment for children under state care and to ensure social engagement of the children as they grow up.

The finance ministry announced the project has been opened for tender, with interested parties required to register by October 12. The project has been allocated USD 272,000 in the 2021 State Budget. The government aims to complete the project within next year.

The gender ministry has been undertaking several projects across the atolls to establish homes for children under state care. As such, the ministry has transferred 18 children to the state care facility established in Eydhafushi, Baa Atoll while 16 children have been transferred to each of the state care facilities in Funadhoo, Shaviyani Atoll and Fuvahmulah City. The ministry is also working on establishing a similar facility in Addu City.
