Maldives National Party (MNP) has stated the party will conduct its first national congress within two weeks after receiving permission from the Elections Commission of the Maldives (ECM).
Speaking at a press conference, Spokesperson of MNP Asra Ahmed said application to form the party has been submitted with membership forms of over 5,300 people. She said the party will conduct its congress within two weeks after receiving permission from ECM. She added important positions such as the president, vice president and council members of the party will be elected during the congress.
MNP is a new party being formed under the leadership of Parliamentarian and former Minister of Defence Mohamed Nazim. Other senior figures at the party include parliamentarians Ahmed Usham and Abdulla Riyaz. The party has announced it will be contesting in the 2023 presidential election.
