Maldives and Bangladesh discuss further strengthening relations

Maldives and Bangladesh have discussed further strengthening relations. The discussions took place during the courtesy call of the High Commissioner of Bangladesh to the Maldives Rear Admiral Mohammad Nazmul Hassan on Vice President of the Maldives Faisal Naseem.

At the meeting held at the President’s Office, the vice president, and the high commissioner engaged in discussions on further strengthening the existing relations. This year marks the 43rd anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations between the two nations.

Citing that Bangladesh is a valuable developmental partner, Vice President Naseem expressed gratitude for the contributions from the Bangladeshi government towards human resource development, especially in the technical and vocational training sectors. He noted the Maldives still faces a shortage of doctors and specialist medical professionals. The vice president thanked the Bangladeshi government for its support to Maldivian students stranded there during travel restrictions imposed to curb the spread of Covid-19.

Highlighting that a large percentage of the migrant workforce in the Maldives are Bangladeshi, the high commissioner shared with the vice president details of their issues and concerns and discussed ways to alleviate these difficulties with him. They engaged in conversation on avenues of further cooperation and on improving bilateral ties between the two nations.
