Maldives National Skill Development Authority (MNSDA) has established employment sector councils for six sectors.
The authority established the councils for six sectors related to national development and the economy, as mandated under the Maldives Higher Education Act. MNSDA established councils in the sectors of tourism, construction, fisheries, agriculture, travel, and information and communications technology (ICT).
The higher education ministry stated establishing the employment sector councils is crucial for gathering data on the changes in the availability and demand for employees in certain sectors and providing training opportunities for Maldivians to guarantee employment and income. The ministry stated experts in the various sectors were appointed for the employment sector councils.
Minister of Higher Education Dr. Ibrahim Hassan inaugurated the councils at a special ceremony. In his speech, Minister Hassan said the government is focused on training workers to become experts in their fields and employing them in government offices and government-affiliated companies. He said the government will continue to provide education and training opportunities for Maldivians with loans, scholarships, and assistance from other countries.
The councils are responsible for providing expert advice and giving recommendations to the MNSDA and implementing government policies on the development of various sectors, including the National Skills Development Master Plan.
