Ministry of National Planning, Housing, and Infrastructure has contracted the Maldives Road Development Corporation (MRDC) with completing the second phase of road development in Kudahuvadhoo, Dhaalu Atoll. The agreement was signed by Director General Fathimath Shaana and General Manager of MRDC Hassan Saeed.
As part of the second phase, MRDC is tasked with tarring a 5.85 kilometre road in Kudahuvadhoo as well as establishing a drainage system and installing street lights. MRDC is tasked with completing the project within one year and 80 days at a cost of USD 7.9 million.
Funds were allocated for the road development project Kudahuvadhoo in the 2020 state budget after President Ibrahim Mohamed Solih pledged to develop the roads during a visit to the island in 2019. President Solih had said Kudahuvadhoo would be developed as an urban centre as part of the government's development plan.
The first phase of the road development project commenced in Kudahuvadhoo in 2013, with 13 roads developed by 2015.
