Former President Maumoon Abdul Gayyoom has submitted his candidature for the position of the Leader of Maldives Reform Movement (MRM).
MRM recently opened applications for its positions ahead of its first national convention, to be held on October 2. The positions opened for application includes the position of MRM Leader, stylised as “Zaeem”. On September 15, Founder of MRM and former President Maumoon Abdul Gayyoom announced he has submitted his candidature for the position of MRM Leader, or “Zaeem”.
At the MRM national convention, members will also be voting to elect a president of the party, as well as a male and female vice president, 10 male members and 10 female members for the executive committee. MRM members will also be electing the president and the vice president youth council, 15 male members and 15 female members for the youth council, as well as the president and vice president of the women's council, and 20 members of the women's council. MRM requested interested individuals to submit their applications before September 16.
The Elections Commission of the Maldives (ECM) permitted MRM to hold the party convention in 2019. However, the party was previously unable to hold the convention due to the COVID-19 pandemic.
