Ministry of Tourism has revealed the Maldives has recorded over 800,000 tourist arrivals this year.
As per the statistics of the tourism ministry, 809,764 tourists visited the Maldives between January 1 and September 13 this year., This is a 104.4% increase compared to the same period last year, when only 396,129 arrivals were recorded due to a three-month long closure of borders.
The tourism ministry revealed the highest number of tourist arrivals were recorded during the month of August, with 143,599 arrivals. The ministry revealed 53,798 arrivals have been recorded during the first 13 days of September. The ministry also revealed the highest daily figure for this month was recorded on September 12 with 4,862 arrivals. The daily average is currently above 4,000.
India is currently the top source market of tourists to the Maldives, accounting for 22.4% of all arrivals this year. Russia is a close second with 20.4% of all arrivals this year.
