The Teachers Registration Board has been formed as stipulated in the new Education Act.
Formation of the Teachers Registration Board was stipulated under Clause 38 of the Education Act, to begin the registration and licensing process of all teachers in the Maldives. Five members have been appointed to the Teachers Registration Board, with Minister of State for Education Aishath Athiya Naseer appointed as the registrar of the board. The other board members are Nahuza Shareef from the field of educational management, Yusra Murad from the field of teaching, Aminath Mohamed from the field of education development and Fauziyya Ali from the field of educational psychology.
The new Education Act, which was ratified by President Ibrahim Mohamed Solih in November 2020, came into effect with the beginning of the new academic year last month. The Education Act provides a framework needed to thoroughly ensure equal rights and opportunities for children and adults to pursue education, as guaranteed by the Maldives' Constitution. The Education Act also embraces the fundamental pillars of education: establishing the rights of the students as well as teachers in regard to education; the responsibilities of the state; and parents and tutors.
