WAMCO registrations to be made by building owners

Waste Management Corporation Limited (WAMCO) has announced registrations for waste collection services will now have to be made in the name of the building owner. WAMCO made the statement at a press conference to announce plans to resume doorstep collection services on September 15.

WAMCO has announced major changes to be made to its services following the ease of COVID-19 restrictions and for preparations for major projects. As such, WAMCO will no longer accept registrations for waste collection from tenants and will only open registrations in the name of the building owner.

Speaking at the press conference, Managing Director Adam Mohamed said the change was made to solve issues in WAMCO's record keeping. He said WAMCO currently has 18,000 registered households in Male' and Hulhumale' but that it does not provide accurate data when considering the amount of waste collected per day. WAMCO needs better record keeping as part of its efforts to improve waste collection services, he said.

Furthermore, WAMCO has announced that workers will be collecting waste from 1800hrs to 2300hrs. The corporation stated it made changes to its waste collection schedule after discussions with the Male' City Council, in order to prevent the waste collection process from obstructing office workers and school students travelling on the roads.

Furthermore, WAMCO requested households to be diligent in properly enclosing their waste and stated that motorcycles are no longer allowed inside waste sites. The sites are closed in order to conduct its development project, and that individuals will only be allowed inside to dispose of their waste after paying a fee, stated WAMCO.
