President Ibrahim Mohamed Solih has appointed Mohamed Asif as a member of the Elections Commission (ECM). President Solih presented the letter of appointment to Mohamed Asif at a ceremony held at the President's Office.
The appointment was made by the president in accordance with Articles 167(a) and 168 (b) of the Constitution of the Maldives, and the Elections Commission Act.
Prior to the presentation of the letter of appointment, Mohamed Asif took the oath of office which was administered by Supreme Court Judge Dr. Mohamed Ibrahim. Mohamed Asif previously filled the position of Deputy Director-General and Assistant Director-General at the electoral body.
The president appointed Mohamed Asif following the resignation of Ahmed Shareef from the commission. Shareef also served as the President of ECM until his resignation on June 15.
